This medium-sized prickly friend makes a beautiful piece for the wall or on a shelf, where light can create shadows from the interplay of branches and spines. Approximately 13 x 6 x 7 inches, and in a lofty periwinkle tone, the light blue plant form is at once delicate and dangerous. Especially beautiful displayed in a minimal space.

"I was struck by the ominous beauty of tumbleweeds; skeletons of life holding their delicate and intertwining forms without time. Years of research and work with agricultural imagery and content shaped my perception of the drab, neutral tones of earth and sun-bleached plant forms as waterless desolation. A juxtaposition of the canvases I paint that are full of color and almost pulsing with symbols of life. I am drawn to the tangibility of the tumbleweeds as produce of this dehydrated life cycle central to the current agricultural narrative of California. The first few tumbleweeds were procured from New Mexico, and have influenced my choice in painting them blue; both the color of spiritual protection from evil, and the color of branching systems of veins."
