Contemporary Agricultural Nanotechnologies Delivering Internal & Environmental Detriment
This body of work, CANDIED, looks at the relationship between two basic needs of humans: food and the environment. My paintings and sculptures are images and forms that symbolize the transforming effects of altering nature with such agricultural practices as biogenetic engineering, the over-application of synthetic fertilizers, the manipulation of species and people that lead to the detriment of our bodies and places.
The fusion of synthetic applications to organic cycles is represented in the variety of materials I use in my work in depicting imagery abstracted from natural organic forms and microscopy. The duality of the microscopic/ macroscopic perspectives is an echo of the depth of our problem so many of us are unaware of.
The three dimensional forms are meant to hold their physical place in the world as imaginings. By fusing work that operates on both flat surfaces and in real space, my project strives to bridge the gap between reality and the illusory, in the age we now live in – the Imagination Age: where, if it can be imagined, it can be created.
